Deployment
From research to live deployment
A staged checklist for moving from a promising backtest to a monitored system without skipping the uncomfortable evidence.
Freeze the candidate
Record the exact code version, inputs, data window, cost assumptions, and validation results. A candidate is not frozen if the live setup is still being changed while the test report describes a different configuration.
Define the risk, instruments, sessions, and protection limits before the terminal is connected to an account.
Stage the environment
Run a demo or controlled paper stage that exercises the same platform, broker symbol, VPS, logs, and startup procedure intended for live use. Compare signal timing, fills, spread, position state, and protection behaviour.
- Verify credentials and account identity without exposing them in logs.
- Test restart and reconnect recovery.
- Confirm the stop and drawdown controls activate.
- Write the manual emergency-stop procedure.
Start small and review
The first live stage is an execution experiment. Use a deliberately small risk, monitor every trade, and compare actual behaviour with the frozen research assumptions. Do not increase size simply because the first few trades went well.
Create a review date and conditions for pausing. Deployment is the beginning of evidence collection, not the end of research.
